Winter is the time of year when many of our favorite holidays take place. Most people spend those cherished holiday moments in the place where they feel most safe and secure: their homes. What many people don’t understand is that even a minor leak can ruin an entire holiday worth of fun and family time. If having an expert inspect your roof before the first heavy snow and ice fall can prevent something so dreaded from occurring, why would you even risk it?

Winter may also be costing you money in unneeded heating expenses due to inadequate attic insulation. Even homeowners with large amounts of discretionary income don’t like to waste their money paying for ridiculous heating bills. For a fractions of the cost of heating your home over a five-year period, the simple and quick installation of fiberglass attic insulation can save you thousands. Not only is that great news for you as the homeowner, but since you would be saving a lot of money, it is also great new for those who are buying gifts for this holiday season.

Having been in the business of storm restoration and insulation for over 11 years, I have seen tens of thousands of dollars that could have been saved, had the homeowners simply had a proper roof and attic inspection. Major repairs and large utility bills are not necessary when a simple 30-minute inspections is all someone needs.

We are urging anyone who thinks their roof may have suffered damage in this year’s storms to get the free inspections by a professional sooner rather than later. This is something that I cannot stress enough. We talk to homeowner every day (that call us for our free inspections) that say “I’m sure there is no damage to my roof, but feel free to take a look.” Those are often the same people whose roofs end up being replaced as a result of storm damage they didn’t even know they had.

The point to all of this is that trying to get your roof to last you through the winter season may be one of the costliest mistakes you can make. In addition, wasting money as a result of a poorly insulated attic just doesn’t make “cents”. These two items can save you thousands of dollars by simply having a trusted contractor inspect them for you and, at the very least, offer you piece of mind during the holiday season. After all, worry-free holidays with more cash in hand always makes for a happier season.
